The King's College is delighted to invite current and external students to apply for the McCoy Performing Arts Scholarship. The scholarship was established in honour of Dr Gerry and Ps Maureen McCoy during the College's 40th Anniversary year. It reflects their passion for nurturing young people and for creating opportunities for students to discover, develop and share their God-given gifts and talents.

The King's College Performing Arts Scholarships recognise students who demonstrate outstanding ability, passion and commitment in Drama, Dance or Music.

Scholarships Available

Two scholarships are awarded each year:

• One to a student entering or enrolled in Years 7 to 9

• One to a student entering or enrolled in Years 10 to 12

Each scholarship continues while the recipient remains enrolled within the relevant year-level category (Years 7 to 9 or Years 10 to 12). This is subject to the scholarship conditions and an annual review. The College reserves the right to review or withdraw a scholarship if a recipient does not meet the expectations below.

Application Requirements

Candidates must:

• Complete this application form

• Submit a letter of no more than 300 words explaining why they should be considered for the scholarship

• Outline their performing arts experience, awards and achievements, and their commitment to the Performing Arts

Selection Process

• Submission of an application

• An audition

• An interview (shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview with the College Principal and Head of The Arts)

• Submission of all required enrolment documentation

• Completion of the College's standard enrolment processes

Audition Requirements

• Drama: Perform a 2 to 3 minute published scripted monologue of your choice, in theatre blacks. A chair and table will be provided, and candidates may bring small props. Candidates will have one minute to prepare and will be asked a question about their performance.

• Dance: Present a 1 to 2 minute solo composition in a genre of your choice. Candidates will have one minute to prepare and will be asked a question about their performance piece.

• Music: Present a song or instrumental piece in a genre of your choice, no longer than 3 minutes. Candidates will be asked a question about their performance piece.

Selection Criteria

Scholarships will be awarded to candidates who demonstrate:

• A high level of achievement in their chosen Performing Arts area

• Passion, enthusiasm and commitment to supporting the Performing Arts at The King's College

• A conscientious approach to their academic studies and satisfactory academic progress

• A positive contribution to the College community

Scholarship Recipient Expectations

For the duration of the scholarship, recipients must:

• Select their chosen Performing Arts area as a subject, where offered

• Take part in relevant Performing Arts clubs, such as Dance, Drama, Choir or Creative Club

• Take part in College productions and events, both onstage and backstage

• Represent the College at relevant school and community events

• Maintain satisfactory academic progress and contribute positively to the College community

• Demonstrate consistent commitment, attendance and participation

Scholarship recipients are expected to embrace opportunities to contribute to and promote the Performing Arts at The King's College.
