Notice of Extended Student Absence from School

The King’s College actively discourages students being withdrawn from school for holidays or travel during term time. In accordance with Section 23 of the School Education Act 1999 (WA), students are required to attend the school in which they are enrolled whenever the school is open for instruction, unless there is a medical reason or another reasonable cause.

Parents/guardians must provide early written notification of any planned absence by completing this form. The King’s College acknowledges your intention for your child to be absent; however, please note that absences for holidays or travel during term time are not approved by The King’s College. Completion of this form does not constitute approval of the absence. Extended absences may negatively affect your child’s learning, assessment completion, reporting, progression, and may impact eligibility for government funding.

By completing this form below, you understand that:

  • The school is unable to provide comprehensive work for your child during their absence; however, we encourage you or your child to communicate with his/her teachers regarding any work that may be able to be completed while away. We also encourage regular monitoring of SEQTA (secondary) or SEESAW (primary) for any relevant information or updates as available. (Please note SEQTA Learn may not be accessible outside Australia. Devices are not covered by insurance if taken overseas.)

  • If your child is behind in their work upon your return, we hope you will work closely with their teachers in order to catch up as quickly as possible.

  • Assessments will need to be completed where no medical certificate is available. Tests are generally administered on the first day a student returns to school. Assignment work is typically submitted via digital submission on the due date. If the leave arrangement doesn’t allow this, an extension should be negotiated ahead of time. Families and students should check the due dates on SEQTA.

  • Reports may reflect that your child has not demonstrated particular standards or outcomes.

  • Extended absences may put a student’s ability to successfully complete a year level at risk.

  • For senior years, days absent may contribute towards a non-satisfactory result in an outcome.

Please advise the full name and year level of each student who will be absent below.
