CATALYST: ACADEMIC EXTENSION PROGRAM

The Catalyst:  Academic Extension Program aims to provide our top academic students the opportunity to excel in the four learning areas of Mathematics, English, Science and HASS. The program is designed to cater for the needs of our academically talented students, providing them with enrichment and extension activities to broaden their interest and knowledge of the curriculum and beyond. We aim to assist all students to achieve their academic best at the College and we encourage students to use creativity, teamwork and communication skills through a range of activities.  All activities are designed to engage students and deepen their knowledge and learning.

Students in the Catalyst program will have access to the following:

  • University immersion activities

  • Guest speakers

  • Competitions across the learning areas

  • Specialised incursions, excursions and enrichment activities

  • Project-based learning activities

In Year 7, students will sample the Catalyst program across all four learning areas and then move into specialist areas of English, Mathematics, Science and HASS from Year 8 onwards. 

ENTRY PROCESS

Entry into the Catalyst Program is by application and academic testing process.  Testing takes place at the College as noted in Key Application Dates below. The student's most recent NAPLAN results and school reports are also taken into consideration.

SCHOLARSHIP 

Each year, the Scholarship Committee awards a number of scholarships to successful Catalyst Extension Program applicants based on merit. This provides up to 50% remission of the annual tuition fee. This will apply until the end of Year 12, providing the student maintains appropriate grades, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and commitment to our College community. 

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Students must be enrolled or interested in enrolling in The King's College for Year 7 in 2025.

  • Students must apply for and be accepted into the Year 7 Catalyst Academic Extension Program.

  • Students must have an eligible visa.

KEY APPLICATION DATES:

  • Applications Close:  5 March 2024

  • Testing Date:  11 March 2024 from 3.45pm-4.45pm at The King's Colege

  • Scholarship places offered by : 26 March 2024

  • Catalyst Program places offered by email:  9 April 2024
